Highway Landscape Planning and Design, Specializing in Native Planting Strategies

During his time as Regional Landscape Architect for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in the mid 1990s, Kevin worked on a number of detailed landscape assessments and design of highway related landscapes. Following that, Heartland Environmental Design worked as a sub-consultant to various engineering firms in the Ottawa area. This work included the preparation of tender documents for highway landscape design, including project management, contract preparation and site supervision. Heartland was involved from the initial conceptual design, through the public participation process, detailed design, and in many cases culminated with the supervision of the landscape installation. The planting strategies focused on naturalization of creek crossings and the use of native plant material to create a pleasant and natural experience along these transportation corridors.

Heartland also prepared a Landscape Maintenance and Plant Health Report for all landscape contracts from Hwy 417 east along Hwy 416 to the 401 interchange.
